Professor Nentawe Goshwe Yilwatda has consistently demonstrated visionary leadership and a lifelong commitment to national progress. His journey through academia, electoral administration, and ministerial service reflects a dedication to strengthening democratic governance and improving the lives of ordinary Nigerians.
Electoral Administration & Democratic Integrity
Resident Electoral Commissioner, Benue State (2017–2021)
Appointed by President Muhammadu Buhari in 2017, Professor Yilwatda served as the Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC) for Benue State under the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
During his tenure, he pioneered initiatives to improve voter inclusion, particularly for Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) and persons with disabilities, ensuring that no eligible citizen was left behind.
He also contributed to the assessment and deployment of electronic voting systems, helping to strengthen the credibility and transparency of Nigeria’s electoral process.
Political Leadership & Party Service
Political Leadership and Service to the APC
Professor Yilwatda’s leadership extends deeply into the political landscape. He played a key role as the Coordinator of the Tinubu/Shettima Campaign Organization in Plateau State during the 2023 general elections, fostering unity and grassroots mobilization across the state.
His close working relationship with former Governor Simon Lalong and other party stakeholders underscored his reputation as a bridge-builder and strategist within the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Following the 2023 elections, and in recognition of his consistent contributions to party development, he was nominated by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to serve in the Federal Executive Council. After a successful screening by the National Assembly, he was sworn in as Minister of Humanitarian Affairs, Disaster Management and Social Development on 24 October 2024.
Ministerial Leadership
Minister of Humanitarian Affairs, Disaster Management and Social Development (2024–2025)
As Minister, Professor Yilwatda brought his technical background and data-driven mindset to one of Nigeria’s most critical ministries. He prioritized efficient humanitarian coordination, empowerment of vulnerable groups, and digital monitoring systems to ensure accountability in social programs.
Under his leadership, the ministry strengthened partnerships with local and international agencies, improving disaster response and social protection across the nation.

Respect for Democracy and Rule of Law
After the 2023 gubernatorial election in Plateau State, Professor Yilwatda, as the APC flag bearer, challenged the results in court. When the Supreme Court upheld the victory of the opposition party, he graciously accepted the judgment, reinforcing his belief in the rule of law and democratic maturity. His calm acceptance and statesmanlike conduct earned him wide respect across political divides.
National Leadership Today
National Chairman, All Progressives Congress (2025–Present)
On 24 July 2025, Professor Yilwatda was unanimously chosen and inaugurated as the National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) — a testament to his integrity, competence, and trust among party leaders nationwide.
As Chairman, he continues to champion unity, internal democracy, and national cohesion, positioning the APC as a party of vision, inclusion, and sustainable development.
